Cremation Memorial Service

Cremation Memorial Service

Many times a family, although confident in the decision to cremate, voices concern about not being able to have a service. We want you to know the truth: choosing cremation for a deceased family member places no limits on the ways you can come together with family and friends to honor their life. Here at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen, we’ve designed several affordable cremation options. Our traditional cremation funeral package combines the affordable simplicity of cremation with the opportunity to honor the life of a deceased family member through a traditional funeral service.

Your loved one’s cremation funeral service package includes everything necessary for the cremation of their physical remains. If a cremation funeral service sounds like the most appropriate choice for your situation, please read further; or call us at 201-891-4770 to speak with a licensed funeral director about our cremation funeral services.

What’s included in a Cremation Memorial Service?

Our years of experience serving grieving families have made us very aware of the desire many have to return to traditional ways of expressing their sorrow. We designed this all-inclusive cremation funeral service package for individuals and families seeking the comfort of tradition. Just like our cremation memorial services, this package includes all the necessities for the cremation care of the deceased. But, instead of a less-traditional memorial service, this cremation funeral service package features a traditional visitation and funeral service:
  • The Arrangement Conference
  • Services of a Licensed Funeral Director and All Support Staff Throughout the Visitation and Funeral Service
  • Use of Our Facilities for One Day for the Visitation and Funeral Service
  • Care and Preparation of the Body for the Visitation and Service
  • Obtaining the Death Certificate
  • Assisting with the Newspaper Obituary (If Requested)
  • Assistance with Social Security, Veterans' Benefits and Insurance Policy Claims (If Requested)
  • Scheduling Services with Church and Clergy
  • Preparation and Arrangement for Cremation
  • Compilation of up to 40 Pictures into a Memorial Video (Two Copies Will Be Provided)
  • Basic Memorial Package of Memorial Cards, Register Book, and Thank You Cards (Custom Orders Are Additional)
  • Local Transportation of the Deceased from the Place of Death to the Crematory
  • The Cremation Process
  • An Allowance for the Urn
Not included in any items mentioned above include any cemetery costs and requirements the cemetery may have, cost of obituary’s placed in local papers, clergy or musician fees, limousine and certified copies of the death certificate (necessary for many estate-related matters).

Our Memorial Service & Cremation Package Options

Cremation with Same-Day Memorial Visitation and Service

The two cremation memorial services we offer share one common feature: both are held on the same day as the cremation. The one fundamental difference between the two has to do with the location of the service.

Package 1

Visitation and Service Held at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home

Features a memorial service held at our facility
When considering the location for your loved one’s cremation memorial service, there are many reasons to hold the service here at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Funeral Home. Perhaps the most persuasive reason has to do with our amenities, most notably:
  • Ample parking, as you can see in our Virtual Tour
  • Elegant, yet warm and welcoming décor; as seen in these pictures of our Foyer.
  • A Children's room with television, DVD player, a table and sideboard full of toys and books.
  • Comfortable Visitation Rooms, our North and South Chapels; where our cremation memorial services are held.
The other reason has less to do with our facility, and more to do with our experienced staff; each individual working at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Funeral Home is dedicated to providing you, your family and guests with the highest level of compassionate, professional service.

Package 2

Holding the Visitation and Service at an Alternate Location

Includes a service held in an alternate location (such as your church or another public venue of your choosing).
This second version of our “same-day” cremation memorial services is based on holding the service in a location other than our funeral home. Typically, an “alternate location” is one of our many Franklin Lakes religious centers, such as the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Franklin Lakes Baptist Church, the High Mountain Presbyterian Church, Temple Emanuel of North Jersey, or Barnert Temple. But, your loved one’s cremation memorial service could also be held in a local recreational center or veterans’ hall.
No matter what location you’re considering, you should know cremation memorial services held at an especially meaningful location can be a very powerful experience for all involved. If you’re interested in exploring the possible locations for your loved one’s cremation memorial service, please speak with our licensed staff members Jim Vander Plaat or his son Nicholas by calling 201-891-4770

Planning a Cremation Memorial Service

Before the Cremation Decision is Made

1. Learn about your cremation options. Review the cremation information found on our website.

2. Engage your family in a discussion. We urge you to bring your family into the conversation to get a better idea about how they feel about cremation and what they would prefer.

3. Speak with a funeral professional. If there are any questions or concerns, please turn to us for the insights you may need at this point.

4. Document your cremation intentions in writing. There are a number of forms we can provide to take this step. Call us at 201-891-4770 to learn more.

5. Arrange for the transportation of your loved one's physical remains. We can escort them to our facility or directly to the crematory.

After Deciding on Cremation - Planning a Cremation Memorial Service

6. Consider what kind of cremation memorial service you would like to have. You can plan for a traditional funeral followed by the cremation or delay the ceremony until you have the time to plan a memorial service, celebration-of-life, or scattering ceremony.

7. Ask for assistance from your family and friends. When making plans for a meaningful event, encourage everyone to get involved. Ask them to gather family photos, write down the stories they'd like to share, and talk to them about the best location for the event. If you would like a eulogy, this is the time to ask someone special to take on that task.

8. Select the music, prayers, or other readings. You don't have to have any of these things but you should decide exactly what you and your guests will do at this event. There are endless possibilities.

9. Contact guests well ahead of time. This is especially important if they will need to travel or request time off from work.

10. Decide what will be done with the cremated remains. Commonly the urn is a visual focal point of a celebration-of-life. Will you then take it home? Will the scattering of ashes be a part of the event? You may want to purchase keepsake urns for family members.

We Also Offer Private Family Cremation Memorial Services

American best-selling author Katherine Neville wrote, “Privacy – like eating and breathing – is one of life's basic requirements." For some people this is especially true after the death of a loved one; sometimes all that’s desired is the comfort of immediate family members. In cases like this we suggest private cremation memorial services. This package of services features many of the same elements as our other memorial services for cremation, with the addition of a Shaker pine casket for the service.

We Keep Our Cremation Memorial Services Affordable

Each of the cremation memorial services we offer has been thoughtfully designed and reasonably priced. We should remind you, however, each of these three memorial and cremation packages includes everything needed; except for what are called “cash advance purchases”. There’s no need to fret; we will review the subject of cash advance purchases in greater depth during the arrangement conference.
